The Shear Stud accessory, used in all Magnum hydraulic absolute pressure TCP firing heads, offers unmatched accuracy to keep your tubing conveyed perforations projects consistent and reliable. 

Our Shear Stud is used in every Magnum hydraulic absolute pressure TCP firing head for a reason. With precise construction, it is machined to shear within +/- 5 percent of its rating. And because it’s compatible with all pressure activated firing systems, it’s easy to get Magnum quality in all of your tubing conveyed perforations.

The Shear Stud is fastened to the firing pin and positioned above the initiator. A calculated, predetermined pressure is applied at surface down the work string. This pressure acts on the surface area of the firing pin. When sufficient pressure is applied, the shear stud will shear and the applied pressure will hammer the firing pin into the CP initiator—triggering the explosive train. If tubular specifications allow, exceed the applied pressure to the shear stud rating by 10–15 percent. 

Available in sizes: 1,000 PSI (6.9MPa) to 13,000 PSI (89.7MPa) in increments of 250 psi (1.7MPa)

NOTE: When installing the shear stud, DO NOT tighten/torque through the Shear Groove. WARNING: Only qualified personnel should use or assemble Magnum TCP equipment.
